About ShomerIT Search

ShomerIT is a metasearch engine, aggregating the results of other search engines while not storing information about its users.

Why use it?

How do I set it as the default search engine?

ShomerIT Search supports OpenSearch. For more information on changing your default search engine, see your browser’s documentation:

• Chromium-based browsers only add websites that the user navigates to without a path.

How does it work?

ShomerIT Search is a fork from the well-known SearXNG metasearch engine.
It provides basic privacy by mixing your queries with searches on other platforms without storing search data. ShomerIT Search can be added to your browser’s search bar; moreover, it can be set as the default search engine.

What does ShomerIT protect me from?

• Adult Content (Sites which may contain sexually explicit content, images, or that are portrayed through visually expressive language.)
• Contentious & Misinformation (Sites that are contentious or controversial, often causing argument or controversy, characterized by strong opposing arguments; and sites that spread or aid in the spreading of misinformation.)
• Cryptomining (Sites which serve files or host applications that force the web browser to mine cryptocurrency, often utilizing considerable system, network, and power resources.)
• Dating & Personals (Sites whose main focus is on connecting individuals for the purposes of dating.)
• Drugs (Sites that contain content whose main focus is on controlled substances, including the sale, discussion, or glorification of such substances. Does not include alcohol and tobacco.)
• Gambling (Sites that allow a visitor to play games using wagers/placing bets, lottery pools, or provides information on such activities.)
• Hacking & Cracking (Sites that disseminate information, hold discussions, or provide a means to gain unauthorized or illegal access to computers and networks.)
• Malicious Domain Protection (Machine learning driven malicious domain detection. This will detect items like Domain Generation Algorithms (DGA), botnet, malware, and other deceptive sites based on machine learning risk scoring.)
• Malware (Malicious software including drop servers and compromised websites. Includes drive by downloads and adware.)
• New Domains (Domains which have been registered in the last 30 days, which have a high probability of serving malicious resources)

• Terrorism & Hate (Sites that are primarily focused on promoting terrorism or hate content (i.e. explicitly racist, discriminatory, violent, or hateful content).)
